I heard the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) say, ‘Whoever recites Al-Waaqi’ah every night will never become poor.” He said, “What is hurting?” He said, “My sins.” He said, “What do you need?” He said, “The mercy of my Lord.” He said, “Shall we not call the doctor for you?” He said, “The doctor made me ill.” He said, “Shall I order that your regular income be restored to you?” He said, “You did not let me have it before today and I have no need of it now.” He said, ‘Then leave it to your family and dependents.” He said, “I have taught them something which, if they say it, they will never become poor. It was narrated from Shujaa’ from Abi Fatimah that ‘Uthman Ibn ‘Affan (Radi Allahu Anhu) visited Abdullah Ibn Masud (Radi Allahu Anhu) when he was sick. Ibn Asakir (Rahmatullah Allaih) has recorded a Hadith stating that the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “Surah Al Waiqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children.” The Weak Hadith Reference: Mukhtasar Ithafus Sadatil Maharah, Hadith 6556 – Imam Busiri (Rahmatullah Allaih) wrote: ‘Abu Ya’la has recorded this with a chain whose narrators are all reliable.’ Takhrijul Kash-shaf, Vol.3 pg.412, Lisanul Mizan, Hadith: 8902 – Allamah Zayla’i (Rahmatullah Allaih) has declared the chain of Abu Ya’la as good (jayyid). The narrator also said: ‘Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (Radi Allahu Anhu) would teach this Surah to his daughters too.’ The Sahih HadithĪbdullah Ibn Mas’ud (Radi Allahu Anhu) reported that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: ‘Surah Waqi’ah will become a protection from poverty for the one who recites it every night’ One has been graded Sahih whereas the other one has been declared as being weak. We benefit from the above Hadith that the Surah’s mentioned by the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) in the above Hadith made his hair grey because they contained warnings that were very hard upon him.Īmong the most eminent virtue of Surah Al-Waqiah is its ability to protect its regular reciters from poverty. Narrated from Ibn Abbas (Radi Allahu Anhu), the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, “(Surah) Hud (11), Al-Waaqi’ah (56), Al-Mursalaat (77), An-Naba’ (78) and At-Takweer (81) have made my hair grey” The Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) used to recite this Surah regularly and is regarded as one of the Surah which made his hair turn grey. This Surah is known for its vivid description of both Jannah and Jahannam. The meaning of the word “Waqiah” is “The Event” and by this we know that this event is none other than The Day of Resurrection.
